Biography

 

Professor, Institute of Advanced Studies on Asia, the University of Tokyo. He has been a visiting professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs of Princeton University since 2014. Sato has three singled authored books on development and natural resources in addition to three edited books. In English, Sato has published in peer reviewed journals such as Comparative Studies in Society and History, World Development, Journal of Development Studies, Development and Change, and Sustainability Science. He won the Japan Academy Medal in the field of humanities and social sciences for the year 2013. He holds an MPP from Kennedy School at Harvard University and a PhD from the University of Tokyo.
