In what promises to be a "where is he going with this?" lecture titled, "My Life as a Toaster Oven," Bob Garfield, co-host of National Public Radio's "On the Media" and Ad Age columnist, will present a public talk on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. in Dodds Auditorium at the Woodrow Wilson School. Garfield's talk is part of the School's "Media and Public Policy" thematic lecture series.

For 25 years, Garfield’s wrote the “AdReview” column in Advertising Age where he evaluated ads from hundreds of agencies worldwide. His new Ad Age column, “Listenomics,” explores the frontiers of 21st-century marketing and media.

Over the past decade, Garfield chronicled the digital revolution and the collapse of the media landscape culminating in his 2009 book, “The Chaos Scenario.” In 2003, he authored “And Now a Few Words from Me,” which he describes as a “manifesto on advertising.” A collection of his work over the years, titled “Waking Up Screaming from the American Dream,” was published by Scribner’s in 1997.

Garfield also co-hosts National Public Radio's weekly Peabody Award-winning magazine program "On the Media." For many years, Garfield was the advertising analyst for ABC News. He's been a regular on Financial News Network, CNBC's "Power Lunch" and "Adam Smith's Money Game" on PBS. He is a founding contributor to the “Watchdog Blog” of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University and has been a contributing editor for the Washington Post Magazine, Civilization and the op-ed page of USA Today.
