David Risher ’87, President and Co-Founder of Worldreader


David Risher, is a former Amazon executive and co-founder of Worldreader. Worldreader, a global non-profit organization, is on a mission to create an e-reader revolution by bringing digital books to children and their families in developing countries worldwide.

Risher has been leading large-scale educational and technological advancement for more than two decades. As general manager at Microsoft, he managed the marketing and development of Microsoft’s first desktop database. As senior vice president at Amazon, he helped grow the company from $16 million to $4 billion in sales.

In September, 2014, Risher was recognized by President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) at their 10th Annual Meeting for Worldreader's work in the developing world.

Following his passion for education, Risher taught at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business where he was voted "Professor of the Year" by his students. While living in Barcelona with his family, he served as president of the Board of Barcelona's Benjamin Franklin International School and became a member of ESADE Business School’s International Advisory Board.

Risher completed his undergraduate work at Princeton University and earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is a Draper Richards Kaplan entrepreneur, an invited member of the Clinton Global Initiative and a Microsoft Alumni Foundation Integral Fellow.
